The Galician Government’s Directorate-General for Cultural Promotion and Diffusion -which is responsible for the Galician Tunes portal- intends all the essential contents and functions of this website to be independent of the hardware and web browsers used for access, coded using open and free technical standards and accessible for browsers adapted for individuals with sensory, motor or cognitive disabilities or limitations.
The European Union, in the Resolution of the Council of 25 March 2002, encourages the Member States to be aware of the need for digital content to be accessible and, following this recommendation, Law 34/2002 of 11 July on information society services and e-commerce states that public administrations shall adopt the measures necessary to make the information available on their Internet webpages accessible to disabled and/or older people in accordance to generally acknowledged content accessibility criteria before December 31, 2005.
With this objective in mind, the design of the Galician Tunes website has been created taking into account the accessibility recommendations for the first level of priority of the WAI guidelines of the W3C.
