Womex 2009, Galician music in Copenhagen
28 OCTOBER - 1 NOVEMBER
On 28 October, the Danish capital will be taking over from Seville as the venue for Womex, the world’s most important roots music event. For the third year running, our music will be featured at this event through the participation of the leading companies operating in this sector. In addition, the various initiatives and actions aimed at selling Galician music abroad programmed for Copenhagen by the Galician delegation include the distribution of a CD offering a selection of tracks by our finest groups and soloists, plus a guide to the region’s major festivals and music seasons.

Galician music will once again be present at Womex, the world's leading world music fair. Held for three years' running in Seville, this event is now moving to Copenhagen, which will be hosting the forthcoming edition between 28 October and 1 November, as well as the 2010 and 2011 editions. The fair is therefore moving from Seville to the Danish capital for the next three editions of this event, which this year has attracted 2,800 delegates from a total of 90 countries.
Copenhagen’s Bella Center will be housing a large stand sponsored by the Autonomous Government of Galicia’s Department of Culture and Tourism through the AGADIC (the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries). The aim is to promote the Galiciantunes brand, which for the last few years has acted as the principal flagship for the promotion of Galician music abroad. This space will also provide logistical backing and support for all those Galician companies taking part in the event.
In addition to the general and specific promotional materials provided by the various record labels, the Galician delegation will also be distributing a CD at Womex 09 featuring a selection of tracks by Galician bands such as bOnOvO, Fía na roca, Milladoiro, Berrogüetto, Nova Galega de Danza, Rosa Cedrón, Mercedes Peón, Uxía, Fran Pérez & Manecas Costa, Hermanos Moreira, Orquestra Vigo 430, ISGA Collective, Donatore di Groove, Xosé Manuel Budiño, Cristina Pato & Mutenrohi or Anxo Lorenzo. A guide entitled Galician Festivals will also be distributed, containing a list of Galicia's major music festivals and seasons. This guide was drawn up specifically to promote Galician music abroad.
Falcatruada, Ouvirmos, Zouma Records, Berrogüetto Producións, Abada, Maré, Articket, Sul Produccións, Nordesía and Xosé Manuel Budiño are the firms that will be travelling to Copenhagen on this occasion. The latter two will each have their own exclusive stand. In addition to the institutional representatives led by the AGADIC’s Director Juan Carlos Fernández Fasero, representatives from the sector’s two largest associations will also be present at Womex: AGEM (the Galician Association of Music Companies and Agaphono (the Galician Association of Music Producers), who are responsible for organising Galicia’s participation in this event.
