Galician music takes to the Latin American stage at BAFIM

FROM THE 19TH TO THE 22ND OF NOVEMBER

Galician music is taking a further step towards breaking into the Latin American market with its debut at the Buenos Aires International Music Fair (BAFIM). Five companies (EsmerArte Servicios Artísticos, Keltia Producións, Nordesía, Ouvirmos and Lonxa Cultural) will be present at the event, to be held between the 19th and 22nd of November, together with the associations AGEM (the Galician Association of Music Companies) and Agaphono (the Galician Record Producers’ Association). The Galician delegation, which is visiting the event with the support of the Regional Ministry of Culture and Tourism through the AGADIC (the Galician Cultural Industries Agency), will have its own stand at this important international music fair. With the aim of promoting Galician music, accredited professionals at the BAFIM will be given a CD containing a selection of tracks performed by various artists. Together with the activities carried out at the fair, including a series of business events, record signings and a showcase from Xoel López, this first joint musical venture by the Galician recording industry in Latin America will be supported by a series of concerts entitled "The Music of the Galicians", and the trademark GalicianTunes. Apart from Xoel López, Carlos Núñez, Aló Irmâo (Narf e Manecas Costa), Uxía and Vetusta Morla will be performing concerts during these dates in a number of well-known theatres and music venues in Buenos Aires.

Five Galician music companies will be visiting the BAFIM: EsmerArte Servicios Artísticos, Keltia Producións, Nordesía, Ouvirmos and Lonxa Cultural, who will be sharing their own stand for Galician music. This will be a focal point for business and promotional activities, providing logistical support for the companies, intermediation services in business negotiations and attending the general public, as well as holding specific events such as record signings with artists and groups including Xoél López and Vetusta Morla.

Apart from the promotional material provided by the companies, the Galician delegation will be handing out an audio CD to accredited professionals visiting the BAFIM, produced as a result of Galicia’s recent participation at Womex 2009, including a series of tracks performed by Galician artists such as bOnOvO, Fía na Roca, Milladoiro, Berrogüetto, Nova Galega de Danza, Rosa Cedrón, Mercedes Peón, Uxía, Aló Irmâo (Fran Pérez "Narf" & Manecas Costa), Hermanos Moreira, Orquestra Vigo 430, ISGA Collective, Donatore di Groove, Xosé Manuel Budiño, Cristina Pato & Mutenrohi or Anxo Lorenzo. It also includes the promotional CD Rumbas featuring various artists from the "Descarga ao Vivo" platform.

This will be the fourth edition of the BAFIM, an event that has become firmly consolidated as one of the main meeting points for the Latin American music industry. The fact that all of the agents involved in the music sector are represented at the event makes it stand out from other professional trade fairs and meetings. The fair is also open to the general public, who will have access to the fair space itself and the different concerts planned during the event. The organisers expect around 100,000 people to visit the fair, which will feature one hundred stands and to enjoy the 80 live performances held on three stages, as well as a series of DJ sets. Also, 750 professionals (200 of whom are from outside of Argentina) have already confirmed their presence.
