THE GALICIAN TUNES STAND OPENS TO THE PUBLIC

Promotional activities for Galician music get underway in Buenos Aires at the BAFIM

[20/11/09] The Galician delegation visiting the Buenos Aires International Music Fair (BAFIM) has begun its programme of promotional activities with the installation of its own stand at the Costa Salguero Exhibition Centre, together with the first extremely successful concerts by Carlos Núñez, Xoel López and Vetusta Morla at different venues throughout the city.

The stand at the event is being shared by a number of Representatives from the companies EsmerArte Servicios Artísticos, Keltia Producións, Nordesía, Ouvirmos and Lonxa Cultural, together with the associations from the sector: Agaphono (the Galician Record Producers’ Association) and AGEM (the Galician Association of Music Companies),as well as the institutional representation of the AGADIC (the Galician Cultural Industries Agency) from the Regional Ministry of Culture and Tourism From here they are publicising the "GalicianTunes" trademark for the Latin American market, establishing bilateral contacts with different cultural agents, and welcoming the general public who flock to the BAFIM every afternoon.

Yesterday, singer Xoel López offered a showcase performance as part of the official concert programme of the BAFIM. López also played last night at La Trastienda, where he shared the stage with Vetusta Morla in a concert organised by the company EsmerArte-La Fábrica de Chocolate from Vigo. The evening also saw a concert from Carlos Núñez at the Teatro Coliseo, where the bagpiper presented tracks from his latest album "Alborada do Brasil" to a packed house of more than 1,500 people.

Reception at the Galicia Centre

Over the last few days, the city of Buenos Aires has also been the scene of an intensive publicity campaign for the parallel series of concerts, called "The Music of the Galicians", with large-format billboards in strategic points throughout the city centre. Thousands of postcards and business cards presenting the trademark and website of GalicianTunes have also been handed out at the city’s main leisure venues.

As part of the same promotional activity, the Galicia Centre in Buenos Aires will be offering a reception today for over one hundred people, including members of the Galician community in Argentina, politicians and personalities from the world of music and culture on both sides of the Atlantic. The event, hosted by the director of the AGADIC, Juan Carlos Fernández Fasero, and Alejandro López Dobarro, the delegate in Buenos Aires of Galicia’s Regional Government (Xunta de Galicia), will include a performance by the singer Uxía.

The concert programme in Buenos Aires will continue tomorrow, Saturday the 21st, with Uxía and Aló Irmao (Fran Pérez "Narf" and Manecas Costa) at La Trastienda, and with a new performance by Xoel López with Vetusta Morla at the Sala Niceto, while activity at the exhibition centre will be continuing until the evening of Sunday the 22nd.
