GalicianTunes

Objectives

GalicianTunes is the trademark used to promote Galician music on the international scene. Created as a joint platform for the institutions, companies and associations operating in the music sector in Galicia, GalicianTunes takes Galician music to all the major fairs and music markets (MIDEM, POPKOMM, WOMEX...), as well as to international music festivals and to our artists’ concerts and tours outside Galicia.

The GalicianTunes trademark is an initiative set up by the Department of Culture of Galicia’s Autonomous Government, which holds full competence and responsibility for cultural issues. The Galician Government is aware of the complexity of today’s music sector, the result of the major changes it has experienced in recent years in terms of musical creation, production and the relationship with the public. For this reason it has promoted a series of measures aimed at providing support for Galicia’s music sector, and which are based on three essential objectives: to achieve a greater presence and awareness of our music; to boost its international image; and to contribute to the structuring and strengthening of our music industry.

In order to achieve these objectives, the Department of Culture and Tourism has set up four general strategic guidelines:

  • A vision of music as an intrinsic part of Galician culture, as seen from a dual perspectives: its economic value, as a cultural sector that generates wealth and financial resources; and its contribution to society and culture, as a cultural factor that helps us to build up our identity as a people.
  • The regulation of public policies for the promotion of music, in order to boost the various elements of the sector: artists and creators, the network of associations and companies and the general public.
  • The need for the social presence and distribution of live Galician music (concerts) and recorded music (phonographic and new formats).
  • A boost for the presence of Galician music on the international scene characterised by its quality and personalised identity, thereby converting music into an element of particular importance within the strategy for the internationalisation of Galician culture.
